Registration to watch the Grand Finals Concert is free but required, available here. See below for this year’s list of finalists and the May 10–16 streaming schedule (the free streams are available starting at 7:30 PM ET each night at for 23 hours each). The lineup also includes the 2009 documentary The Audition, which captures the events of the 2007 competition. Leading up to the concert, the Met will showcase performances featuring past winners in its Nightly Met Streams series: look out for star turns from Renée Fleming, Susan Graham, Lawrence Brownlee, Teresa Stratas, and Sondra Radvanovsky. Met favorite Ryan Speedo Green, a winner of the 2011 auditions, will host. Ten young singers will compete for the $20,000 cash prizes-remaining finalists will receive $10,000. The auditions are a potentially career-making opportunity for aspiring opera singers, given the reach of the auditions, the number of applicants, and the program’s long tradition.The Metropolitan Opera will live stream the Grand Finals Concert of the 2021 National Council Auditions, set to take place May 16 at 3 PM. Of the 141 singers in the 10 Regional rounds, 23 were named semifinalists. Now in its 67th season, this year nearly 1,200 applicants auditioned for the Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition, with just over 600 singers qualifying for the 31 District Auditions. The remaining five finalists each receive a $10,000 cash prize.

Participating in the 2021 competition looked much different this year with 10 finalists performing in the Laffont Grand Finals Concert, virtually from locations around the world. Beginning with the class of 2021, the competition is now called the Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition. Known since its founding in 1954 as the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the competition name has been changed in recognition of a generous gift from the Laffont family.
